How to Hydrate Your Skin Naturally

Hello Friends!

Thanks for stopping by to read tonight’s blog post. It’s been a while since I’ve come on here and written a post for all of you to enjoy, so I figured now was as good a time as any to get back into the swing of things, what with fall right around the corner and so many fantastic makeup and skin care products to behold with the changing of the season. Fall is absolutely one of my favorite times of year, and I am more than excited that it’s finally arrived!

Tonight, I want to revisit a topic I have touched on a time or two here on the blog in the past, and that’s hydrating your skin. You might think buying whatever cheapie, on sale moisturizing cream you can find at your local Walgreens will work. Well, it might, in a pinch – but do you really trust all of those ingredients you can barely pronounce to save your life? Yeah, didn’t think so. Read on to see what you should be doing to care for your skin – inside and outside.

Hydrate From Within

I can’t stress enough how incredibly important it is to hydrate from within. What this means is, drink water. Lots of it. The more, the better. Your skin cells are constantly regenerating. Without adequate water, those new, beautiful cells are going to look lifeless, dull, and flaky. Water is the key to having beautiful, supple skin that’s able to hold it’s elasticity – and appear hydrated on the outside. Save yourself the itchy, flaky skin – especially this time of year – and drink your 10-12 glasses of H20 per day.

Use Quality Moisturizer

I know what you’re thinking: “But that stuff’s expensive!” And my answer to that is a resounding YAS! It is! However, think about it this way: think of your moisturizer as an investment to your health. You wouldn’t not take a prescription medication your doctor prescribed you for an infection requiring antibiotics, would you? Of course not; on the contrary, you’d want to get those pills in ASAP! Think of your moisturizer as your skin’s prescription, and splurge a bit. You want to put quality ingredients on your skin – because those ingredients will ultimately end up inside your skin, as moisturizers are absorbed into the pores quickly. Personally, I use Forever Flawless White Diamond Collection and have been for the past 2 years now, and I am 100% OBSESSED. Is it expensive? You bet your ass it is. But it’s worth it.

Use Natural Oils

If you just can’t bring yourself to use any type of store  bought moisturizer, whether it’s because of the price, or if you just don’t like using products on your skin – you still have an option! Coconut oil is one of the most fantastic moisturizers on the planet – and you can use it in place of any store bought moisturizer, with sometimes better results than you’d get from some of those store bought concoctions. This is also a great option for those with extremely sensitive skin.

So, as you see, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated, moisturized, and clean to ensure wrinkles stay at bay as long as possible. Nobody wants to be 33 looking like they’re 45 because they didn’t take proper care of their skin. Can I get an Amen?

Be sure to check back soon as I will be posting another blog this week.

Have a great night, everyone!

Beauty for Moms: How to Look Great in 10 Minutes or Less

A typical morning look for me

If you’re anything like me, when you get up in the morning, you’ve probably got one thing on your mind: coffee. And kids. And school. And waking the husband. And taking the garbage out because your son decided he didn’t feel like doing his chores last night. And your daughter’s spelling bee practice after school. And finding your son’s school uniform. And that appointment you made a week ago that you forgot to write on the calendar. And taking the dog outside to pee. And all of the 5,847,756,736 things you have to do today. Okay, so you’ve probably got a ton of things on your mind if you’re anything like I am – which, if you are, I feel for you, truly – and don’t ever have time to focus on self.

I don’t know about you, but I get up and make a blind beeline directly for my amazing, spectacular coffee pot (thanks to my lovely husband) and brew up some strong, hot goodness in a cup. I need it to make it through the day.

No, seriously.

With four kids (middle and high school aged) and a husband to get ready for school and work, and a very demanding dog to let out to do her business, I need to think quick and move fast. It’s not until about two hours after I get up that I’m allowed the free time to go pee, let alone spend time in front of a mirror. Lets face it -us moms make some serious sacrifices in terms of our looks when we are doing our duties as mothers and are left with almost negative free time to focus on ourselves.

The truth is: we deserve at least ten minutes to work on our faces and hair before going about our day. It’s something many of us fail to do, but it can make a huge impact on the remainder of our day and how we generally feel throughout the day. Our husbands would more than likely appreciate it quite a bit, too. Can you imagine the look on his face when he sees you look that good, that early in the morning? It’s almost hilarious to think about!

If you are curious to learn the fastest, easiest way to look better than presentable, read on.

Cleanse & Moisturize

This literally takes a minute to do, but it’s one of the most essential parts of our day. Taking care of our facial skin is one of the best things we can do to preserve our skin’s structure, and ward off aging and those God-awful fine lines and wrinkles. Believe it or not, while we sleep, we accumulate a great deal of oil, debris, dirt/dust, and even dead skin cells on our faces. When you think of it that way, it’s a pretty good bet you will want to take that minute to rid your skin of all that mess, and hydrate your parched skin with some good facial moisturizer. When choosing these types of products, you will want to opt for good quality products.

I am blessed enough to use Forever Flawless’s White Diamond Collection, which actually has real diamond powder infused within the ingredients. I use both the cleanser and the moisturizer, as well as the facial peel once per week. These products are uber pricey, but so unbelievably worth the cost. High end skin care products are important because they contain better ingredients than those you would buy at the drugstore, improving the overall quality of your skin, and going the extra mile to provide anti-aging properties. By doing this every morning, you will see a marked improvement in your skin almost immediately, and feel refreshed, which can give you the get-up-and-go you need to get through the day.

Apply Products

After cleansing and moisturizing, you can opt for a quick once over with your favorite products. My morning regimen usually consists of the same products – unless I have an appointment, meeting, or something special going on. I typically use the following:

  • Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in Classic Beige
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
  • Too Faced Chocolate Soliel Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Precision Micro Eyeliner (OR) Urban Decay Glide on Eye Pencil Crayon in Perversion
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara
  • e.l.f. Eyebrow Kit in Dark
  • Stila Lip Glaze, color usually varies

I apply a quick coat of each of the above, and go on about the rest of my business. It takes me about 3 minutes to do my makeup in its entirety, sometimes less. I don’t like to use a ton of products anyway, so for me, this is a simple, natural yet beautiful look. When it comes to your makeup, learn what products work for you, which ones you love, and practice with them. Once you have learned how to apply them the way you like, it will come naturally – and you will find yourself applying them at lightning speed, with perfect precision. Give yourself one coat of your fave products and keep it light. This season, less makeup is more. Use that to your advantage!

Create a Simple Hairstyle

If you like to straighten your hair, you could do this at night after the kids have gone to bed, or as everyone is relaxing. It will still look fab – if not even better – by morning. If you want something different, opt for something simple like a ponytail – but add something to perk it up, like bobby pins with jewels on the sides, or wrap hair around the ponytail holder and secure with bobby pins underneath to give it a cool effect. Perhaps you are having a bad hair day. No worries – that’s what buns are for! Pull it half up and secure with a barrette or bobby pins for a simple look when you can’t decide if you want to wear it up or down. When all else fails, wear it down and tousle it with your fingers. Simple, easy, done.

Get Dressed

Yep, that’s right. I’m coaxing you out of the sweats or PJ’s, and telling you that you need to actually put on a pair of jeans, or a cute skirt or dress, and look like you’re trying. As comfy as those sweatpants are, you aren’t meant to live in them. Find your inner teen and go through your closet, and try some of your favorites on. If you get dressed, you will get motivated. You will want to do this every day when your husband compliments you and you get sweet compliments from your children. Watch and see. Don’t take my word for it – try it for yourself! You’ll be amazed how good it feels to wear actual clothes again!

Put a Smile on Your Face

Seriously. When you smile, statistics show you become more attractive. Think about it. If you were to see yourself in two separate pictures – one of you smiling, and one where you weren’t – which one do you think would be more attractive? Bingo! The smiling photo. Not only does it help you to appear more attractive, but smiling, even if you’re in a grouchy mood will force you into a good mood. Find a reason to smile. I’m not saying sit there with a constant smile on your face, either – because that would be exceptionally weird, aside from creepy. Count your blessings, if you need to – but find at least one reason to smile. You’ll be amazed how much you might enjoy it!

By following my little guideline, I’m almost positive that you will feel amazing and look even more amazing than you feel! All of this can be done in under 10 minutes’ time. If you feel as though you don’t have the time, make the time for yourself. You deserve it!

Winter Shower Care: The Right Way for Soft Skin

We’ve all been told and have learned that during the winter months, we need to change our skin care routine – including overall body and skin care – and have undoubtedly tried things to change the way we care for our skin. Some things may have worked, while others may not have worked for our particular skin type so well. It begs the question, is there a specific order we should be following to properly care for our skin, and if so, what is it? Lucky for you, I’ve come up with a foolproof way to shower that will leave your skin moisturized, soft, gorgeous and problem free all winter long.

shampoo1-lgStep 1: Shampoo Your Hair – Twice

Washing your hair first will eliminate the possibility of residue saturating into your pores, and will also give the conditioner, once applied, time to saturate the hair and absorb the moisture. Shampoo your entire head thoroughly, rinse, and then repeat. I am a firm believer in washing your hair twice to remove buildup of hair products and to ensure clean, shiny hair. If you have curly hair or frizzy hair by nature, I encourage you to opt for a sulfate free shampoo, which won’t leave your strands a mess.

Step 2: Condition Your Hair From Root to Tip

Conditioner isn’t only meant for the ends of your hair, so forgo everything you’ve heard about conditioning the ends of the hair only, and lather this stuff on. Massage into the scalp first, and work the remaining conditioner throughout the rest of the hair, applying more where you need to. The conditioner is meant to also moisturize your scalp, which goes through battles of it’s own throughout winter such as itching, irritation, and dryness. Think of conditioner as a moisturizer for your scalp. Allow the conditioner to remain on the hair until later on in your shower – I will get to that a few steps down.

Step 3: Exfoliate the Skin

This step is paramount to maintaining beautiful, fresh skin throughout the winter months. Forget the loofah, known for developing bacteria and mold on and within the interior, and opt for something such as a simple sugar scrub for the body, ensuring you don’t use this on your face. For facial exfoliation, a good facial peeling mask can be applied once per week. This can be done once per week, and you can even create your own sugar scrub at home by using raw sugar or coconut sugar and some olive or coconut oil. Mix together, and work in circles all over the body. If you are going to opt for a store bought scrub, try to find one that is labeled as ‘body polish’ rather than ‘scrub’ for the ultimate in effectiveness, while maintaining a gentle quality. Exfoliation is important to ridding the body of dead skin and promoting new skin cell growth, leaving behind healthy, beautiful skin.

Step 4: Shave – With Conditioner

Forget those messy shaving creams and gels, and grab your bottle of conditioner. Using conditioner to shave will actually give you a closer shave, while ensuring your skin gets moisturized in the process. Shaving a while after you’ve been in the shower allows body hair time to soften and become more pliable, and easy to remove. Be sure to shave in the direction the hair grows to remove all of the hair without nicks or cuts – and shaving slowly will also ensure the same. Remember not to apply too much pressure to the skin with the razor, or you might remove a whole lot of skin rather than hair.

Step 5: Time to Wash Your Face

It is in this step where you will rinse the conditioner from your hair. Directly after rinsing out the conditioner fully, you need to wash your face immediately to ensure no excess conditioner is absorbed into the facial skin – which could cause acne and clog your pores. Use a soap free cleansing bar, such as Cetaphil, on your face to ensure no irritation and good hydration to the skin. Don’t scrub your face at all with your fingernails, rather, gently apply the cleanser and make small circles across your face and neck with your fingertips. Rinse with water.

Step 6: Time to Wash Your Body
Last but certainly not least, it’s time to lather your body and wash up. Rather than opting for drying soap products, you should instead use a soap free bar, such as Skin Milk, Olay, or Dove. There are many varieties available, and you can experiment with ones you like to see which is your favorite. Avoid soap bars at all costs, as these are undoubtedly drying, and can cause itchy, irritated skin – something nobody wants to deal with any more than they have to during the winter months.

After your shower, you should feel revived, fresh, and moisturized. Apply a good body cream or lotion as soon as you towel off to lock in moisture throughout the day. Also, apply a good moisturizer to your face and neck area, not forgetting to include the ears and behind the ears as well.

By following these simple tips, you will be well on your way to maintaining and having beautiful moisturized skin all winter through!

Product Review: Forever Flawless Skincare

I had the ultimate privilege this past week of receiving an amazing kit from one of the most luxurious companies known to the skin care industry – Forever Flawless Cosmetics. After speaking with them, they lightning shipped out an amazing product package to me via UPS and I got to try the products, and have been using them all week long. I must say – I have never been so impressed with a skin care company’s products as I have been with theirs – ever. Now, that’s saying something.

The products I received are as follows:

Snake Venom (2)

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is the gorgeous packaging on each of the products. When I say gorgeous, that’s an understatement. The black and white pattern on the boxes looked artistic and classy, and was super pretty. I was very impressed by the boxes alone. It was when I opened each of the boxes that I literally had a jaw dropping, “Ooh,” and, “Ahh!” moment. With absolutely no exaggeration what-so-ever intended, I was so amazed by the beauty of the containers themselves, I had to show them off to everyone. They just looked so impressive and I knew I would put them on display for everyone to see!

I grabbed my camera and began snapping pictures immediately, because I just couldn’t wait to give these products a try and see if they worked as well as they were beautiful.

Not to my surprise, they worked as well as I knew they would. If a company would spend as much on their packaging and design as Forever Flawless does, the products have got to speak volumes – and undoubtedly, they did.

The Diamond Infused Cleansing Complex

This product left my skin feeling rejuvenated, clean, and well moisturized. It’s just the right amount creamy, just the right amount foamy, and gently exfoliates with the inclusion of the diamond dust to leave a smooth, polished, matte look that feels clean all day. I must admit, I used the product twice per day, and I generally I have dry skin during the winter months – even living in South Florida. This product didn’t dry my skin out, and didn’t affect my sensitive skin in any negative way. Overall, I rate this product a 10/10 – and I don’t think I have ever rated a product a perfect 10. I am definitely going to be replenishing this product when I run out. The best part, aside from the fact that I got to wash my face with actual diamonds, is the scent. I absolutely adore the fresh, clean scent of the product – and that makes me want to use it all the more.

The Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

This facial peel was unlike any other facial peel I’ve ever used in the past. It spread on smooth, peeled easily without the need to use a washcloth to remove remaining product, and leaves your skin feeling supple, moisturized, and the pores feeling much cleaner than before the actual application. I believe this is attributed to the fine diamond powder within the gel itself that helps bond to the particles within the skin and helps lift them, as well as oil and debris from makeup. It leaves your skin looking like a fresh, new canvas and I can guarantee your skin has never felt so clear. I had two blemishes at the time I used the product. Typically, it takes days to get them to go away. After using this product, they were gone the next morning. Unbelievable! I would recommend this product to those with all skin types. Again, it didn’t affect my combination/dry skin in any sort of negative way, and worked perfectly as it was supposed to. I give this product a 10/10.

Diamond Infused HYDRA-AM Night Cream

This cream is without a doubt the best face cream I have ever had the privilege of using. I can’t tell you enough how fabulous it made my skin feel. The dryness I experience around the sides of my nose and between my eyebrows was instantly alleviated – and my entire face and neck just felt like it was drinking up the fabulous moisture this product provided. I was over the moon excited that I now have a product I can use that doesn’t make the oily parts of my face feel any  more oily, but that actually somehow makes it feel more even and toned down. It was like, a miracle in a jar. Without any stretch of the truth, any woman of any age would benefit from this product and I would have to say this is my favorite product from the three piece set because I am never able to find a good moisturizer cream that a.)doesn’t make my skin feel more oily or greasy than it does in certain areas, and b.)actually works to alleviate the dry skin I experience, and keep it gone as if it were healed. It smells beautiful, feels so creamy and silky, and is truly unlike any other cream I have ever experienced before. Any woman would be doing herself a disservice if she didn’t try this product and experience the luxury of the product for herself.

I have to admit, this next one sounded a bit intimidating at first, but once I actually read into a bit more and did some research on their website, as well as read the product insert, I felt a lot more at ease about using the product.

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Snake Venom Correcting Cream

Perhaps, now you can see my initial apprehension when hearing the name. When I read the product insert, it explained that the complex which is in this phenomenal product is actually a peptide that mimics the Polypeptide in the venom of the Temple Viper, allowing the facial muscles to relax instead of contract, therefore ridding the skin of fine lines and wrinkles as well as preventing any from forming. Now, I don’t know about you, but that’s a bit of a concern to me at 31 years of age. Although I’m still young and barely have any skin damage (other than the lovely freckles I inherited from my mother) or signs of aging showing as of yet, I do have some fine lines near my left eye and a couple really small ones on my forehead, and with just one simple application of the product, it was as if the lines diminished. I couldn’t believe the transformation. It was as if I never had them to begin with! My overall face took on a much more youthful appearance from this product alone. You only need a very small amount of product to smooth out and nearly remove all fine lines and wrinkles, and it can be used once per week.

Overall, these products made me look about 3-4 years younger. As it is, I get compliments all the time from random women on my skin, and they are shocked when I tell them my real age. They tell me I look anywhere from 21-23 years old. So to look about 3 years younger than that really makes me happy! Truly, I couldn’t be happier with these products and I would highly recommend and praise them up and down to anyone I could express it to who would take the time listen. For now, I suppose this review can suffice!

Quick Skin Care Tips for Winter

I am always looking for ways to improve the appearance of my skin and hair without taking too much time in front of the mirror. As a busy mom and overtime blogger and writer, I love to find ways to have great looking skin and keep time spent doing so to a minimum. I am pretty confident these tips will help you to achieve the same great looks as I go for, with only a few minutes required. You can try one or all – it’s up to you. Also – you don’t have to use the products I am speaking about, but I highly recommend them because I use them, and I know they work.

Be sure to cleanse your face twice per day. Once in the morning, and once at night. It takes only a few minutes, and rids your skin of make up buildup, oil, and dirt. It also refreshes you and will keep your skin soft and smooth and acne free. I recommend Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel for any skin type to get a fresh, clean face you can see and feel. It’s gentle enough to use every day, and this particular brand is recommended by top dermatologists worldwide for its effectiveness and gentle cleansing capabilities.

Be sure to moisturize after cleansing to lock in the natural moisture in your face, plus rehydrate your skin when it’s been washed of oils and debris. During the winter months, this is exceptionally important. I am currently in love with Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance because of it’s fantastic phytonutrients which help to fight the signs of aging, and it also provides intensive moisture to the face and neck – which, lets face it, we all experience during the winter months. I love this product, and I know you will, too.

Once per week is all you need when it comes to exfoliation. By exfoliating too much, you can damage your skin, and cause further skin damage and problems which may be irreversible. Try using a gentle exfoliant once per week, such as the Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Facial Peel which will provide your skin with a renewed, refreshed look as dead skin cells are removed, as well as toxins and impurities. Don’t do yourself a disservice by rigorously scrubbing or causing abrasions to the skin by using harsh exfoliating tools; rather, all you need is something gentle and mild to do the trick. Steer clear of facial loofah’s and scrubs, as these tend to deplete the skin of moisture and cause dryness, redness, and itching.

If you follow these three tips, I guarantee you will see better skin results. If you have problematic skin, chances are during the winter months it will become even more problematic and complicated. There are other products I could recommend for acne-prone skin, such as Gunilla of Sweden Lerosett Organic Acne Treatment which is perfect to treat acne – and it’s all organic. In terms of moisturizing, those with acne need something gentle yet effective. Using typical moisturizers is generally not a good idea when you have acne because it can cause even more acne related issues. Try Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Moisturizing Lotion– it’s cheap and works great! It’s also all natural.

I wish you all fabulous skin and a wonderful week ahead!
